Cookies

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. RRCHNM uses cookies to help RRCHNM identify and track visitors, their usage of RRCHNM websites, and their website access preferences. RRCHNM visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using RRCHNM’s websites, with the drawback that certain features of RRCHNM’s websites may not function properly without the aid of cookies.

Personal Information

Some visitors to RRCHNM’s websites voluntarily choose to interact with RRCHNM in ways that require RRCHNM to gather personally-identifying information ("PII"). The amount and type of information that RRCHNM gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, if you would like to create classroom and student accounts, create a challenge, save results, or submit work to a teacher, you must create an account that requires a username and password. If you email us, you may voluntarily provide PII (email address or name) to help us address your concern.

We always inform users regarding what information is required, and only use that information for its stated purpose. If you provide the information requested, then you consent to our using the information for the stated purpose. If you do not provide the information, some website features may be unavailable.

Except in the case of authorized government law enforcement activities, we do not provide personal information to outside organizations without first obtaining the user’s consent.

Updates to your Personally-Identifiable Information (PII)

If you wish to update or delete any of your PII, you can do so on your account profile page. You can also delete your account.

Children’s Privacy

Part of this website’s mission is to reach out to children in creative and educationally beneficial ways while still protecting their privacy. We provide a safe online environment for children in accordance with Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) principles.

RRCHNM does not knowingly collect PII from children under 13 years of age without prior parental or guardian consent. If a user wishes to establish an account, they must be over 13 years of age; otherwise, a teacher, parent, or guardian must give permission. More commonly, teachers, parents, and guardians submit information about the child which enables the website to create an account for each child using the site. To protect student privacy, student work made public on the website will only be presented with a computer-generated user name and a computer-generated user icon with no individual identifying information.

We do not use the information for any purpose other than the activities on the website.

If we learn that a child under 13 has posted PII, we will delete the information.

We will disclose information about a child under the age of 13 if it is necessary to protect the child or the website itself, or to respond to authorized law enforcement requests.

We take children’s privacy seriously, and encourage parents to contact us with any questions or concerns via [EEC email address]. Similarly, parents who would like to notify us of PII collected from a child under the age of 13 that should be deleted should contact us [EEC email address].
