Legislative Branch - Senate

Congress is the bicameral legislature that serves as the lawmaking body of the U.S. government with elected representatives serving the interests of the people. Members of the Senate, or the upper house, are elected for terms of six years and maintains equal representation, where two senators are elected in each state. The Senate is primarily responsible for checking the power of the President, for example, by approving federal treaties, presidential appointments, and approving the proposed budget.
