In it to win it. Individuals who want to represent the people in government can choose to run for office. There are a variety of offices across all levels of government: local, state, and national (e.g., mayor, governor, or president). The campaign is the individual’s effort to win the election and often relies on the support of the political party to organize voters under a common platform, inform citizens about the issues, and rally civic participation. The media plays an important role in the election process, especially as the fastest method for candidates to spread their message to a large number of people. The media allows candidates and political officeholders to communicate directly with the public through television news broadcasts, to commercials, newspapers, and social media posts. In addition to providing a forum for candidates to identify and discuss their beliefs, the media also helps to set the public agenda by focusing the attention on issues that they believe are important. Propaganda strategies are used in political advertising in order to persuade the audience and is usually intended to mislead, demonstrate bias, and demonstrate only one side of an issue.
