The United States has a two party system, where there are primarily two major political parties who compete to earn a majority of votes in elections. The Republican platform calls for lower taxes, less government involvement in public service programs, less strict gun control laws and increased troops in military conflicts abroad, when needed. These represent only a few of the planks (or political issues) that vary between the two major political parties.
