The first amendment protects an individual’s fundamental freedom of expression, including the right to free speech, freedom of religion, freedom of assembly, freedom of petition, and freedom of the press. This amendment allows people to express opinions about the government freely, without fears of censorship or punishment. The only time this right can be taken away is when its practice limits the rights of others or causes them physical harm.
